The Clinical Ethics Immersion at MedStar Washington Hospital Center is a 4 day, 40 hour clinical ethics experiential program designed for physicians, bioethicists, academics, students, and other healthcare providers. The course is held at one of the busiest and most sophisticated hospital systems in the country, MedStar Health. Participants are given the opportunity to round with clinical ethicists in intensive care units, participate in case consultations, hear presentations by specialists in critical care, palliative care, ethics law, philosophy, psychology, conflict management, group dynamics, and other subjects essential to the practice of clinical ethics, and engage in first-hand simulated ethics consultations in our state-of-the-art simulation lab. A seminar format allows for continuous group discussion and community-of-practice (CoP) style learning and sharing of ideas and perspectives.
