This is an overview of central line bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and how using a bundled approach can achieve zero CLABSI. It also outlines the MedStar Health’s Central Venous Catheter-Associated Infection Prevention Standards, the care of the patient receiving a central line, insertion, maintenance, and removal of a central line. This education is required by the Joint Commission and MedStar for all providers who manage central lines.
