The "Universal Protocol: A Mandatory MedStar Practice--Every Procedure, Every Patient, Every Time" module provides a step-by-step overview for learners on the mandatory practice of using Universal Protocol for all procedures on every patient every time. This no-exception practice is standard of care at MedStar, and this module outlines the steps required by the Universal Protocol which are done to avoid wrong site, wrong procedure, wrong person surgery. While each entity may have a slightly different approach, all components of the best practice must be included.

The "Surgical Safety Time Out: A Best Practice Example" module is introduced by Executive VP, Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer at MedStar Health, Stephen R. T. Evans, MD. Dr. Evans provides a step-by-step outline of all components of the Time Out that must be performed prior to every procedure performed in a MedStar entity.
