SCUF, or slow continuous ultrafiltration, is the process of fluid removal without clinically significant impact on electrolyte balance. MedStar Health uses the Aquadex SmartFlow® System for inpatient ultrafiltration. Ultrafiltration is an appropriate treatment option for patients with diuretic-resistant volume overload OR for patients who are hemodynaically unstable & cannot tolerate rapid fluid shifts.  In this content, nurses will review the basics of ultrafiltration treatment and how to use the Aquadex SmartFlow® System.
