Objectives

  • Orientation to emergency medicine decision-making: List the critical diagnoses for chest pain; Discuss the timing of cardiac markers; Formulate the clinical probability of pulmonary embolus in the patient presenting with chest pain; Review of key features of critical ED chest pain diagnoses
  • Describe classic presentations: Acute coronary syndrome; Pulmonary embolus; Pneumothorax; Aortic dissection; Pericarditis; Esophageal rupture (Boerhaave syndrome)
  • Define the spectrum of ACS
