Course Description:
The BLS Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals.
Course Content:
Key changes in basic life support, reflecting the new science from the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care; Critical concepts of high-quality CPR; The American Heart Association Chain of Survival; 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant; 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant; Differences between adult, child, and infant rescue techniques; Bag-mask techniques for adult, child, and infant; Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant; Relief of choking for adult, child and infant; CPR with an advanced airway
Course Length:
Approximately 4 Hours Intended Audience: This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.
Student Materials:
BLS for the Healthcare Providers Student Manual (includes Pocket Reference Card) The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. The use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the Association.

- The student must demonstate proficieny in Adult/Child Single Rescuer CPR, as well as with utilizing the AED in these situations.
- The student must demonstate profiency in Infant 1 & 2 Rescuer CPR.
- The student has an understanding of the chain of survival
- The student preforms prompt, high quality CPR utilizing the C-A-B sequence.
- The student should understand and initiate early use of the AED.
- The student understands the difference in Adult/Child/Infant CPR
