This course is an explanation of the pathways and protocols that MedStar has put in place to care for patients whom we suspect may have acute compression of the spinal cord. It is focused on three phases of care: No-Delay Diagnosis, No-Delay Imaging, and No-Delay Definitive Care. The module is focused on the clinical care of the patient. It is meant to augment the earlier MedStar SiTEL Module, OD-011733 – Early Detection and Management of Atraumatic Cord Compression
show lessObjectives
- By viewing this course, the student should learn: How to increase their diagnostic vigilance for patients with possible cord compression using red flags in the patient’s history and physical exam.
- How to call a Code Cord Compression when appropriate and get imaging done in a timely manner in cooperation with their radiologist.
- How to harness the protocols that MedStar has put in place to facilitate transfer of these patients, if necessary, to either MWHC or MGUH for definitive care.
