The purpose of this course is to provide an application basis for the safe administration of chemotherapy/ biotherapy. This course is geared toward nurses new to chemo/bio administration after they have taken the online ONS course and obtained their ONS provider card. Topics covered will include a review of MWHC’s Chemo/bio competency, PPE, pre-chemotherapy assessment, administration, monitoring, and managing chemo spills. This is meant to be an application course, building on the knowledge learned in the online course, and incorporating a hands-on component and critical thinking.

- Demonstrate proper technique donning and doffing PPE
- Describe the nurse’s role in preadministration, administration, monitoring, and evaluation of chemotherapy/biotherapy.
- Discuss MWHC’s competency regarding chemotherapy/ biotherapy administration.
- Discuss potential complications of chemotherapy/ biotherapy
- Demonstrate the process for the independent double check when administering chemotherapy/biotherapy.
- Demonstrate the process of administering chemotherapy using safe handling techniques and cytotoxic precautions.
- Demonstrate the process for cleaning up a cytotoxic spill
