This course offers Continuing Professional Education credits. To claim the credits, the course must be completed prior to December 31, 2023. Once your evaluation is complete, under Main Menu in SiTEL click on the CloudCME link and click on My CE/ Transcript to find the credits the next business day.
This is a train-the-trainer course designed for clinicians eligible to be proctors for the MedStar Health Central Venous Line (CVL) Course. The course includes a prerequisite video outlining the role and responsibilities of the proctor. The live portion of the course includes instruction from “Lead Proctors” on how to teach the use of ultrasound, central line insertion (internal jugular and subclavian techniques) and central line removal. Additionally, the "Lead Proctors" will teach how to run the CVL Practice and Testing Sessions, including the use of adjunct equipment (such as the iPad for completion of the standardized CVL checklist).

- 1. Discuss flow and components of the central line insertion course for use later when teaching and proctoring the simulation sessions.
- 2. Identify best practices surrounding central line insertion policies and procedures at MedStar Health
- 3. Discuss the use of the grading checklist for testing purposes on the tablet and paper forms.
- 4. Demonstrate the central line insertion procedure including use of ultrasound, simulated suturing and sterile technique to ensure consistency in future proctoring of central line insertion testing.
- 5. Discuss how to assist and communicate with learners needing feedback, remediation and retesting to be implemented in future during proctoring of central line testing.
