Objectives

  • Upon completion of this module, the nurse should be able to recall the protocol to follow prior to the administration of an anti-infective infusion.
  • Upon completion of this module, the nurse should be able to differentiate between an antibacterial, an antiviral, and an antifungal infusion.
  • Upon completion of this module, the nurse should be able to recall some of the actions, doses, storage requirements, and adverse effects for some of the most common anti-infectives.
  • Upon completion of this module, the nurse should be able to state the protocols to follow for a First Dose infusion.
  • Upon completion of this module, the nurse should be able to differentiate between an allergic reaction, an anaphylactic reaction, and side effects/adverse effects.
  • Upon completion of this module, the nurse should be able to recall the common labs drawn for patients receiving antibiotics and recall the time frame for lab draws for trough and peak levels.
