This course is geared towards new to practice nurses and new to oncology nurses. The goal of this course is to provide introductory education on oncology nursing to provide new nurses with the knowledge to competently care for this specialty population. This course will cover the following topics including cancer biology, treatment modalities, symptom management, and oncology emergencies.
Please note: This course is offered in a flipped classroom format meaning content is gained through online modules (to be completed prior to the live class date) and the live classroom component is geared toward application of knowledge and interactive learning. Please complete online pre-work modules prior to the live class date.

- Compare the differences between normal cells and cancer cells
- Describe treatment and management of oncologic emergencies
- Discuss the management of common symptoms in cancer patients such as nausea and vomiting, mucositis, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, lymphedema, cognitive dysfunction
- Identify symptom management in the care of an oncology patient
- Identify the hallmarks of cancer
- Identify the purposes of the various treatments for oncology patients
