This course invites you to think more holistically about pain management and not only assessing the sensory qualities and intensity of your patient’s pain but assessing the affective component of the pain as well, the suffering.
This course is divided into four sections: Affective Component of Pain; Holistic Assessment and Treatment; Alleviating Anxiety in Medical Settings; and, Behavioral Medicine Interventions.
Objectives
- Define pain and suffering.
- Recognize the relationship between pain, suffering, and pain behavior.
- Assess the relationship between a patient’s experience with pain and with their perception of their identity and self.
