This two day advanced medical surgical nursing workshop is intended for clinical nurses practicing in adult medical surgical units. The workshop will cover all body systems, physiology, pathophysiology, assessment strategies and treatment options for common med/surg patients. Pharmacological management will be included within each system reviewed. This course will benefit those who have med/surg nursing experience and need/want a clinical update and review of the latest best practice. It can also serve as a review for those who are preparing to take the ANCC or AMSN med/surg certification exams. Test taking strategies and practice exam questions will be discussed and reviewed in each section. This seminar is recommended for nurses with at least one year of clinical experience.

- Identify the common care needs of patients with single and multisystem organ abnormalities.
- Outline assessment strategies and treatment options for common acute care problems.
- Review the pathophysiology for single and multi-system dysfunction and discuss the pharmacological management for each.
- Describe the psychosocial care needs for a hospitalized adult patient.
- Identify and discuss the professional/research/ethical role of a Medical Surgical Nurse.
- Outline the professional practice role aspects of med/surg nursing.
