This course provides the nurse with information about a resource intended to help reduce gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in cancer patients. The intention is to help reduce cancer patient hospital readmissions for GI symptom management. Excerpts from the actual National Cancer Institute NIH brochure will be provided, along with details about how the nurse can get the actual brochure into their patient's hands before discharge.

- Understand the purpose of this initiative to reduce cancer patient readmissions related to the effects of GI symptoms.
- Understand who should be offered the NIH National Cancer Institute Brochure (Eating Hints: Before, During, and After Cancer Treatment) before discharge.
- Understand how to get the brochure into their patient’s hands.
- Recognize that the printed resource is expensive, and to use the electronic version, whenever possible.
- Notify their nursing Director when copies run low.
- Complete the “open-book” post-test after reading brochure excerpts inside of this module; score a passing grade of 80% or greater.
