Objectives
- Define restraints and MedStar St. Mary’s policy regarding restraint use
- Describe examples of behaviors warranting the use of Violent and Non-Violent restraints
- Describe proper application of violent and non-violent restraints
- Differentiate between the roles of a sitter for a 1:1 observation vs. constant observation
- Explain the requirements for obtaining an order for restraints
- Identify criteria for removal of restraints and/or seclusion
- List examples of restraint alternatives and describe the purpose of alternatives to restraint use
- Recognize roles and safety precautions for sitters
- State the requirements for the face-to-face evaluation for violent and non-violent restraints
- State the Safety Level at which a sitter is required
- State who is able to perform the duties of a sitter
