Course Description The American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support course is based onscience evidence from the 2015 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric healthcare providerin developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment; effective respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion; intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.

This PALS course is based almost completely in simulated clinical scenarios that require active, hands-on participation throughout the day. Participants will participate in simulated cases using a human patient simulator to practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader. This course is taught in accordance with the guidelines determined by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Prerequisites: Current BLS for Healthcare Provider and PALS Provider Certification, Ability to identify cardiac rhythms, a basic understanding of the medications used to treat pulseless arrest, bradycardia & tachycardia.

To be eligible for renewal class, the candidate must possess a current AHAPALS Provider and BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification at the time of the course start date. The original card or copy of the card must be presented prior to the beginning of the class. If no card or record of the participant eligibility exists, the candidate will not be admitted to the course and must register for an initial training course.
