Grand Rounds provides a venue for the healthcare team to learn with, from, and about each other by developing continuous lifelong learning through lectures and case discussions on relevant topics, as well as current research. MedStar Health’s quality and performance data is used to drive educational content. Healthcare expenditures represent approximately 18% of the nation’s GDP. Moreover, the country spends approximately two times more per capita than other industrialized countries. Racial disparities in health and healthcare are key drivers of these expenses. Eradicating disparities and advancing population health will require all sectors of society (e.g., education, housing, criminal justice, healthcare, etc.) to conduct critical audits of how vestiges of racial inequality, exclusion, and bias exists in how services are organized, delivered, and financed.
