MHPT Use of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) in the Outpatient Orthopedic Setting
Objectives
- List basic terminology involving NMES
- Identify patients as candidates for NMES
- Choose between bi-phasic and tri-phasic patterns based on the patient's presentation
- Identify and implement the proper pad placement based on the desired outcome
- Recognize contraindications to electrical stimulation as a modality
- Explain the physiology of PENS and MFAC to the patient
