These modules are designed for healthcare providers who care for patients with a tracheostomy. Part one focuses on the purpose, types, care and emergency management. Part 2 centers on airway patency, suctioning, oxygen delivery and trach changes. Lastly, Part 3 discusses the impact of trach tubes on swallowing and communication.

- At the conclusion of this program the learner will: describe the purpose, function and types, as well as routine care and emergency management of a tracheostomy.
- explain the importance of airway patency, suctioning requirements and oxygen delivery and when and why trach changes are necessary.
- discuss the impact of having a tracheostomy tube on communication and swallowing including use of the speaking valve.
