This VIRTUAL two-day intense review course is intended for nurses who are planning to take the ANCC Gerontological Nursing Certification exam. The lectures and time allotment are based on the exam content outline and will cover all body all systems, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, assessment strategies and treatment options that are unique for nursing care of older adults. Population demographics, professional practice issues, legal and ethical care concerns will also be reviewed. This course will benefit those who have community, primary, long-term and acute care experience in the care of our growing aging population. In addition to reviewing the knowledge needed to successfully pass the Gerontological Nursing Certification Exam, the course will also provide an update on best practice in the care of Older Adults. The teaching strategies utilized are interactive, engaging and promote retention and clinical application.
This seminar is recommended for nurses withat leat one year of practice in the care of patients over the age of sixty five.

- Discuss the evidence based practice guidelines for holistic care of older adults and the recourses available to patients families and care providers.
- Discuss the professional practice issues for holistic care for older adults.
- Identify the gerontological nursing roles and goals in the community, long term care, primary care, acute care and palliative care environments.
- Integrate the legal regulatory and ethical care issues as they relate to nursing care of older adults.
- Outline the physiological changes of the degenerative process and the effects on each body system.
