Description
Everyday Foot and Ankle Pathology Summit
Saturday, April 15, 2023
Description
We intend to review problems of the foot and ankle encountered routinely in urgent care, primary care, and physical therapy settings. We will cover pathology, prognosis, treatments, and which problems require more urgent treatment and clearly identify referral routes so that patients with these issues can be seen and evaluated promptly.
Objectives
- Identify common pathology within the foot and ankle.
- Compare difference between injury and a chronic problem and understand how deformity and the shape of the foot and ankle predisposes certain patients to certain problems.
- Does a patient with a posterior tibial tendinitis always have a flatfoot? Which came first, the posterior tibial tendon issue or the flatfoot?
- List three-foot deformities and what tendinitis they are associated with.
- How does strengthening a tendon help with the foot deformity and by contrast, how can adjusting the positioning of the foot during function (either with orthotics or surgery) improve the function and/or the symptoms experienced by a tendon.
- When does a tendinopathy require surgery, and how to decide the role of foot deformity in that evaluation?
