Surgical site infections occur in 3-5% of patients undergoing surgery.  Sophisticated studies at academic medical centers have linked 30 day postoperative infections directly to bacterial transmission in the Anesthesia Work Environment (AWE). A multimodal approach designed to decrease bacterial transmission is necessary to make a difference. This 20 minute video reviews and demonstrates the importance of frequent hand hygiene, proper glove use, and meticulous vascular access device management in the AWE.
