Objectives
- At the conclusion of this course, associates will be able to:
- Demonstrate aseptic technique when cleansing puncture site for blood culture collection.
- Discuss techniques to reduce contamination of blood cultures.
- Identify equipment required for peripheral blood culture collection.
- Identify appropriate associates who can draw blood cultures.
- Recognize the appropriate blood culture bottle fill volumes.
- Describe the correct process for specimen handling including blood draw order.
- Demonstrate the correct technique for blood collection by venipuncture.
- List indications for a central line dressing change.
- Demonstrate an aseptic central line dressing change.
- Describe the correct process in which CHG application should be performed.
