Objectives
- Utilize appropriate insulin therapy to achieve a blood glucose target of 140 with the range of 110-180mg/dl considered acceptable for hospitalized patients.
- Apply the standardized subcutaneous insulin protocol including the use of prandial, correction and basal insulin.
- Recognize hyperglycemic emergencies and safely manage patients to achieve euglycemia.
- Identify the hallmark features of DKA that differentiates it from HHS.
- Identify three major complications of DKA and HHS.
- Integrate a team-based approach in the care of persons with diabetes in the hospital.
