Objectives

  • Utilize the "STABLE" mnemonic to assist with information recall and to standardized and organize care of the sick infant.
  • Describe how each area identified in the "STABLE" mnemonic is both independent and interdependent on the other area and affect overall care/outcome of the sick infant. Areas identified include: Sugar and Safe care; Temperature; Airway; Blood Pressure; Lab work and Emotional Support.
  • Explain the importance of quality improvement and the professional responsibility to improve and evaluate the care provided to sick infants.
  • Demonstrate infant assessment and stabilization guidelines related to the identified areas (Sugar and Safe care; Temperature; Airway; Blood Pressure; Lab work and Emotional Support), resulting in improved delivery of safe care to sick infants.
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of the healthcare team members involved in the care of critically ill infants.
  • Integrate a team-based approach in the care of critically ill infants.
