Objectives
- Explain the purpose and structure of the NTP Nurse Residency Program
- Identify Benner’s Novice to Expert Theory as it applies to clinical practice and competency
- Describe the components of Reality Shock and steps to help residents progress thru each phase
- Assess the preceptor’s purpose, role and responsibilities
- Produce an evaluation plan that incorporates the orientee, unit director, and the unit educator
- Describe essential leadership skills preceptors can utilize to support the new graduate.
- Critique the nurse resident’s skill level and learning style in order to plan appropriate learning opportunities.
- Apply the principles of delegation
- Outline the new graduate orientation concept, process and guidelines
- List principles of effective communication and support of our new nurses
