2-Nurse Central Line Dressing Change
Objectives
- At the conclusion of this module, the learner will:
- Understand the principles of aseptic technique and infection control practices, relevant to central line dressing changes.
- Identify the appropriate equipment and supplies needed for a central line dressing change.
- Demonstrate proper steps as the clean nurse in the 2-nurse central line dressing change process.
- Demonstrate proper steps as the sterile nurse in the 2-nurse central line dressing change process.
- Demonstrate proper cleaning and disinfection of the central line insertion site and surrounding area, with the use of appropriate antiseptic solution.
- Demonstrate proficiency in applying a sterile CHG impregnated gel pad dressing using sterile technique, to maintain integrity and to minimize the risk of infection.
- Understand nursing assessment and interventions, when the central line dressing change is warranted.
