About this module: This presentation includes an overview of aspiration pneumonia, covering pathogenesis, common pathogens, and treatment guidelines for both community-acquired and hospital-acquired cases. Emphasis is placed on the limited role of anaerobes, highlighting recent evidence from observational studies. This presentation also addresses appropriate antibiotic selection, risks of overuse, and indications for anaerobic therapy in specific situations like abscess or empyema.
