This 8-hour infant feeding didactic day will aid nurses new to women's and infants services in supporting a breastfeeding relationship between parent and infant by understanding the anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding, contraindications, parent education, and infant conditions that may affect the breastfeeding relationship.

- Discuss appropriate indications for supplementation and alternative feeding methods.
- Discuss education and counseling services that can be provided to the breastfeeding parent.
- Discuss maternal conditions that may have an effect on breastfeeding and/or contraindicated for breastfeeding
- Discuss safe formula use and preparation.
- Identify infant conditions that may hinder successful breastfeeding and discuss ways to promote a positive breastfeeding environment in these patient populations.
- Identify medications and illicit substances that have an effect on breastfeeding and/or are contraindicated for breastfeeding.
- Identify the anatomy of a breast, the physiology of milk production, and concerning findings during a lactation consult.
