This module aims to educate physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who may work with individuals with lymphedema. It is an introductory in-service that will focus on lower extremity lymphedema including a brief overview of the diagnosis, education on complete decongestive therapy and discussion of treatment options in the outpatient setting.

Speakers
Lauren Ayers PTA, FMT, CLT has been treating patients in the outpatient setting since graduating from Carroll Community College’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program in 2016. She began her career as a clinician at a small family practice in Pasadena, MD where she spent 7 years with an orthopedic concentration. Here, she received her Functional Mobility Therapies certification from RockBlades (2018). As a former collegiate field hockey player and strength and conditioning coach, Lauren found her passion, comfort, and focus with athletes and the orthopedic spectrum. In 2021, she joined the Medstar Network at Good Samaritan Hospital where she continues to focus on orthopedics. She has since received her certification in lymphedema from The Academy of Lymphatic Studies (2022) as well as her certification in Rock Steady Boxing (2023) for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. Lauren has overseen a total of 5 full-time PTA students since beginning her career and completed APTA’s Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program (CCIP) in 2024, becoming a Level I Credentialed CI.
Meghan Moritz PT, DPT, CLT has treated adult populations in the acute and acute inpatient rehabilitation settings since receiving her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from New York Medical College in 2014. She transitioned to the outpatient setting in 2021 at MedStar Health PT at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital. Meghan has a strong interest in working with patients with neurological disorders, lymphedema, after lower extremity limb loss for prosthetic training and the geriatric population. She received her lymphedema certification in November 2022. She became the clinical specialist for the Amputee/Vascular track of MedStar Health PT within the greater Baltimore region in 2024.
