This four-part annual dementia training is designed for clinical associates and clinical leaders working in home care, meeting state, local, and national best practice requirements. The program equips participants with the knowledge and skills to provide high-quality, person-centered care to individuals living with dementia. Through evidence-based strategies, real-world scenarios, and practical tools, learners will gain a deeper understanding of dementia, effective communication techniques, person-centered care planning, safety practices, and caregiver wellness. This course blends knowledge development with practical application to improve both patient outcomes and caregiver resilience.

- Apply communication strategies appropriate for each stage of dementia and use supportive, person-centered approaches to respond to common behavioral symptoms such as agitation, wandering, and sundowning.
- Demonstrate person-centered care practices that preserve dignity, adapt activities of daily living (ADLs) to individual needs, and promote independence and meaningful engagement.
- Explain dementia and distinguish it from normal aging, identifying common types (Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia) and recognizing signs and stages of disease progression.
- Identify safety risks for individuals living with dementia, implement prevention strategies for falls and wandering, recognize and report suspected abuse or neglect, and apply self-care techniques to maintain caregiver well-being and resilience.
