About this Course: This one-hour annual course for MedStar Health Home Care (MHHC) will equip clinicians with essential knowledge and practical skills to help prevent workplace violence (WPC) and enhance associate safety in the field. This course will review situational awareness principles, de-escalation techniques, personal defense techniques, post-event protocols, and available resources to support safety and well-being.
Preferred Pre-requisite: Completion of the eight-hour SiTEL (Li-026136) Workplace Violence Prevention-High Risk: De-Escalation and Advanced Physical Skills Training.

- Describe risks that are specific to clinicians providing care in the community and home setting.
- Explain principles of situational awareness to identify and avoid potential risks in the community, home and while driving.
- Identify and implement proactive steps to enhance one’s personal safety and security.
- Identify key strategies to maintain a therapeutic environment to prevent behavioral escalation.
- Interpret and respond to behavioral cues across the continuum--from calm to crisis.
- Understand post-event protocol & reporting and team safety.
