This course provides nursing staff at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize, escalate, and document patient care concerns using the Nursing Escalation of Patient Care Concerns Policy. The training emphasizes the use of standardized SBAR communication, proper documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and adherence to established escalation pathways during business hours, after hours, and in the Emergency Department.
The course is delivered through a structured learning module in SITEL. A post-training knowledge exam. Staff are required to achieve a 100% pass rate on the knowledge exam to demonstrate competency and accountability. show less
Objectives
- Recognize situations requiring activation of the Rapid Response Team (RRT).
- Validate knowledge by successfully completing the course post-exam with a 100% pass rate.
- Explain the purpose of the Nursing Escalation of Patient Care Concerns Policy and its role in ensuring patient safety and quality of care.
- Identify and correctly follow the escalation pathways for inpatient care during business hours, after hours, and for the Emergency Department. Apply SBAR communication when reporting and escalating patient concerns.
