This two-hour interactive session is designed to refresh and strengthen the knowledge and skills of designated Vascular Access Champions. The training provides a comprehensive review of MedStar Health policies, standards, and evidence-based practices related to PICC lines, implanted ports, and central venous catheters. Participants will engage in a didactic overview, case-based discussion, and guided skills validation. Emphasis is placed on ensuring consistency, competency, and safety in the management, access, and removal of vascular access devices.
Participants will also complete hands-on return demonstrations for PICC removal, non-tunneled central line removal, and port access/de-access to validate competence and reinforce clinical readiness.

- Demonstrate correct aseptic technique and procedural steps for PICC removal, non-tunneled central line removal, and port access/de-access in accordance with policy and infection prevention standards.
- Describe MedStar Health policy requirements and evidence-based guidelines for the care, maintenance, and removal of PICCs, ports, and central venous catheters.
- Differentiate between indications, insertion considerations, and maintenance requirements for PICCs, ports, and non-tunneled central lines.
- Identify common complications and early warning signs of vascular access device issues and articulate appropriate escalation pathways.
- Model best practices for peer support and clinical mentoring as a Vascular Access Champion within their unit or department.
