Objectives

  • Define the urgent care provider’s role in determining back pain red flags to clinically exclude spinal epidural abscess, cauda equina, and final hematoma
  • Define urgent care role in evaluating traumatic head injury, c-spine injury and clearance, and blunt thoracic and abdominal trauma
  • Demonstrate a proper cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine exam
  • Demonstrate an understanding of preferred imaging choices for head, spine, and thoracic/abdominal trauma patients.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the diagnostic criteria for imaging of blunt head injuries in children and adults
  • Demonstrate understanding of concussion in terms of the following: Head trauma vs. Concussion, Concussion vs. Post Concussion Syndrome, Care Plan including medications, patient education, when to refer to concussion clinic, and work/school notes for time off or sport/gym exemptions.
