About this Course: This course is intended to educate the urgent care provider on topics including evaluation of trauma patients and patients with non-traumatic back pain, possible concussions, and general musculoskeletal complaints of the upper and lower extremities. Material includes proper examination techniques, redflags for emergency symptoms necessitating ED transfer, and proper referral for outpatient management.

- Define the urgent care provider’s role in determining back pain red flags to clinically exclude spinal epidural abscess, cauda equina, and final hematoma
- Define urgent care role in evaluating traumatic head injury, c-spine injury and clearance, and blunt thoracic and abdominal trauma
- Demonstrate a proper cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine exam
- Demonstrate an understanding of preferred imaging choices for head, spine, and thoracic/abdominal trauma patients.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the diagnostic criteria for imaging of blunt head injuries in children and adults
- Demonstrate understanding of concussion in terms of the following: Head trauma vs. Concussion, Concussion vs. Post Concussion Syndrome, Care Plan including medications, patient education, when to refer to concussion clinic, and work/school notes for time off or sport/gym exemptions.
