About this Course: This will be a 1.5 contact hour Live and Streamed lecture for MD/PA/Nurses/and Pharmacist. The purpose of the session is to educate MedStar employees on how to recognize, manage, and care for patients with substance abuse disorders. The goal of the session is to have participants recognize their own biases when caring for patients with substance abuse disorders and reducing stigma while caring for these patients.

- Create a safe starting point to begin unpacking their cognitive biases surrounding drug use and drug users.
- Describe the impact of Stigma on patient experience and outcomes.
- Explain the history and origin of stigma in regards to substance abuse disorders.
- Identify reasons behind substance use & chemical changes in the brain that result in addiction.
- Recognize their role as professionals and its impact on this population.
