Life circumstances – such as housing stability, access to food and transportation, social support, and health literacy – can shape a person’s response to rehabilitation services. This session explores how non-medical factors influence patient participation, adherence, and outcomes in inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation.

Speakers
Brooke Hatfield, MS, CCC-SLP, CAE is the Senior Director of Health Care Services in Speech-Language Pathology at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She has more than twenty-five years of experience as an SLP with a background in adult neurorehabilitation at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital and recently completed a master's degree in health care administration.
Samantha Moore, MA, CCC-SLP is an Associate Director for Multicultural Practices in ASHA’s Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA). She has a background in sociolinguistics and acute neurorehabilitation. She started her clinical career working in the inpatient rehab unit at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C. She has been working at the ASHA National Office for 10 years and also currently works as a PRN SLP in a critical illness recovery hospital.
