Objectives

  • Apply principles of moderate sedation, EKG interpretation, and continuous physiologic monitoring to promptly recognize and respond to patient deterioration in the Cath Lab.
  • Demonstrate correct nursing actions during emergencies, including sedation-related complications, malignant hyperthermia, procedural fires, and sharps exposures, in accordance with institutional protocols.
  • Implement patient and staff safety practices—including radiation protection, fire prevention, sharps safety, and the Universal Protocol—to reduce procedural risk and prevent adverse events.
  • Integrate regulatory and evidence-based standards into Cath Lab practice to ensure safe, ethical, and high-quality care throughout the procedural continuum.
