This is a recording of the home care nursing in-service, Timed Related Therapies and Correlating Labs.
Not all medications require lab testing.  There are some that require lab monitoring because of the high potential for toxicity with serious, nonreversible effects.

Importance of lab monitoring:

Blood levels are used to optimize dosing to help prevent:

          •     Negative system rejection

          •     Bacterial resistance

          •     Drug toxicity

          •     Improve patient outcomes

          •     Optimize patient recovery

          •     Maintain therapeutic levels

          •     Positive response to medication

          •     Decrease reoccurrences
