Description
Welcome to the OB Safety Education: Electronic Fetal Monitoring course. The modules included in this course will provide you with information about the fundamentals of electronic fetal monitoring (EFM). Learners will explore the components of EFM—including fetal heart rate patterns and uterine activity—and gain essential skills in recognizing, describing, and interpreting baseline characteristics, variability, accelerations, and decelerations. By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge to apply standardized EFM terminology in clinical interpretation. Through scenario-based questions and interpretation exercises, you will demonstrate your ability to identify baseline fetal heart rate characteristics, assess variability, and recognize accelerations and decelerations using standardized terminology. Completion of this module will confirm your foundational knowledge of EFM and readiness to apply interpretation skills in clinical practice or advanced learning activities.

- Apply standardized NICHD EFM terminology to interpret sample tracings and clinical scenarios.
- Demonstrate accurate identification of baseline fetal heart rate, variability, accelerations, and decelerations on EFM tracings.
- Evaluate fetal well-being by distinguishing between reassuring, indeterminate, and non-reassuring patterns in assessment activities.
