SLP Research Roundtable: Differing Clinical Characteristics in Concussion Recovery: Work, MVC and Sport
Description
Concussion recovery trajectories can differ widely depending on the context in which the injury occurred. Understanding how injury etiology impacts symptom profiles and clinical presentation can help therapists better tailor treatment planning, education, and outcome expectations.
This session will review the article "Differing Clinical Characteristics Among Individuals With Concussions Sustained at Work, in Motor Vehicle Collisions, and Sport" by McPherson et al. (2024). We will compare symptom burden and recovery outcomes across these three groups, with specific attention to shared and unique presentations in physical, vestibular, cognitive, and emotional domains. The session is designed for PTs, OTs, and SLPs working in outpatient or interdisciplinary brain injury rehab settings and will highlight the implications of concussion etiology on team-based evaluation and intervention planning.
Suggested Audience: PT/PTA, OT/COTA, SLP
Difficulty Level
Intermediate – Recommended for clinicians with experience treating concussion and mild TBI.
