This course provides a comprehensive guide to effectively utilizing language access resources within MWHC. Participants will learn how to bridge communication gaps with Limited English Proficient (LEP), Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing patients by understanding the protocols for interpreting and translation services, best practices of language access, and if desired identifying the path to becoming a qualified bilingual associate.

- Demonstrate best practices for working with an interpreter to ensure clear and accurate communication with patients and visitors.
- Execute the standard operating procedures for requesting professional document translations.
- Identify and access the different types of interpreting services (In-person, OPI, and VRI), and how to contact MWHC interpreting services.
- Outline the requirements and assessment process to become a Qualified Bilingual associate.
- Understand how to document language services used, and where to locate a patient’s language within the EMR.
