The MedStar Washington Hospital Center OB Bridge program incorporates multimodal learning strategies to help nurses succeed in the high-acuity, high-volume, and fast-paced L&D and Mother/Baby units. Nurses complete AWHONN's Perinatal Education Orientation Program (POEP) modules, which are combined with classes that emphasize hospital practices, policies, procedures, clinical simulations, and hands-on skills. The program provides nurses with the theoretical knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to provide holistic family-centered care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients and their newborns. The curriculum is designed for both new graduates and experienced nurses entering the specialty. Class content is integrated with clinical experience, through mentoring and bedside coaching
