Description
The OR Coach/Preceptor Class equips the surgical team in the Operating Room (OR) with the tools and knowledge that they need to successfully onboard newly hired surgical team members in the Operating Room. OR Staff will learn about the roles and responsibilities of acclimating novice perioperative nurses/surgical techs/students to the OR. The AORN Preceptor Certificate Program is a prerequisite that must be completed before taking the OR Coach Class. The AORN Preceptor Certificate program contains a variety of teaching and learning exercises and “case studies” that the preceptor can utilize. The in-person Coach Class is a supplement to provide the preceptor with additional techniques in effective teaching and constructive communication to facilitate the onboarding process while maintaining patient safety. The course will review the preceptor’s and orientee’s expectations for orientation and unit-specific orientation materials.
