About this Course: This 1-hour course is for cardiac operating room service line Associates, Registered Nurses, and Surgical Techs. Participants will be immersed in a simulated operating room scenario where they will focus on OR table/case set up, preparation, and communication during the counting process. By the end of the scenario, participants will be better equipped to focus on the counting process, how to communicate during unexpected occurrences and gain experience from repetition and practice.

Objectives
- Demonstrate maintaining sterile technique while performing surgical counts.
- Ensure correct documentation and accountability
- Identify the risks associated with improper counting.
- Perform all surgical counts successfully.
- Practice alerting the surgical team to count discrepancies and take appropriate steps to reconcile.
- Recognize the importance of accurately counting instruments, sponges, sharps and miscellaneous items by practicing proper counting procedures using institutional protocols.
