About this Course: This 1-hour course is for cardiac operating room service line Associates, Registered Nurses, and Surgical Techs. Participants will be immersed in a simulated operating room scenario where they will practice the setup and procedure for cardiac cannulation. By the end of the scenario, participants will become familiar with the steps in the procedure and recognize the order of need and tools/equipment required by practicing handoffs during the case.

Objectives
- Demonstrate the roles of the circulator and surgical technologist during the sequence of cannulation during a cardiac procedure.
- Discuss the components of accurate documentation including cannula sites and complications on the report sheet and EMR.
- Identify the equipment and material needed during the sequence of cannulation for cardiac surgery.
- Recognize potential complications during cannulation and be prepared for difficult access, displacement, and bleeding.
- Recognize the importance of your role during cannulation in cardiac surgery.
