This course is designed for perioperative nurses on the Labor & Delivery unit at MWHC. The course is designed for those new to the scrub / sterile field role. After completing the required didactic training provided by AORN, nurses are eligible for this course. Training for the OB scrub RN role utilizes a blended learning model to provide nurses with the basic knowledge and clinical skills that are necessary to transition to the role. Through a review of didactic instruction, simulated surgical scenarios, and real-time role practice, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, operating room protocols, and collaborative teamwork with obstetricians and surgical staff.
This course builds the confidence and competence needed to step into the OB surgical suite with assurance and clinical excellence.

Objectives
- Coordinate the sterile field during a procedure.
- Demonstrate how to set up and prepare for an obstetric surgical procedure.
- Demonstrate sterile technique and its application to the scrub / sterile field role.
- Explain the scrubbing / sterile field role and how it coordinates with the circulating role and the roles of other perioperative team members.
