MSH Security Officer Response Training will provide standardized skills and understanding of the role of security officers within MedStar Health. The class will include review of roles, responsibilties, legal obligations and restrictions, de-escalation, as well as comprehensive physical skills training in self-defense, restraint, weapons defense, and control maneuvers.

- Demonstrate physical skills: 1. Escort holds: single person, two person, forward and backwards. 2. Basket holds 3. Escapes from chokes 4. Escapes from bear hug attacks. 5. Bite defenses 6. Grab defenses: wrist, clothing, hair. 7. Defending against a direct attack (punch or an attack with a short tool).
- Learn control maneuvers: 1. Joint control. 2. Pressure points. 3. Escorts to the ground. 4. Feet control for minimizing the chances of kicks from a supine aggressor. 5. Safe approach to an aggressor on the ground.
- Learn defensive tactics: 1. Headlock defenses: side, front, and rear 2. Weapon defenses: A) Edged weapon defenses B) Blunt object defenses C) Defending against a pistol from the front 3. Ground level skills: A) Guard escape from the bottom B) Guard escape from the top C) Mount escape D) Side mount escapes
- Understand the role of the security officer to include appropriate communciations, reporting, and responding
