MHH OB to SCN Prep Course
Objectives
- Apply unit-specific protocols to safely care for stable special care nursery patients within the OB nurse scope of practice.
- Assist in the admission of a neonate to the special care nursery by performing assigned roles, including equipment setup, initial vital signs, and documentation support.
- Demonstrate correct setup, programming, and operation of the enteral feeding pump for neonatal patients, including verification of ordered feeding parameters and implementation of safety checks.
- Demonstrate proper setup, use, and safety checks of an isolette, including temperature regulation and infection prevention measures.
- Explain the rationale for breast milk fortification and accurately prepare fortified feeds per provider order and institutional guidelines.
- Recognize abnormal findings during admission and routine care and initiate appropriate communication and escalation.
